On Friday, October 4, 2019 at approximately 5:39 p.m., deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with injuries on Highway 75 and Cold Springs Drive, south of Ketchum, Idaho.
Daniel Paul Casali, age 72 of Ketchum, Idaho, was driving southbound a black 1998 Audi A4. Casali reported that he had slowed and entered the left turn lane in preparation for turning onto Cold Springs Road when the collision occurred with Ned Raymond Flanagan, age 36 of Ketchum. Idaho. Flanagan was traveling northbound on Hwy 75 in the inside lane in a silver 2005 GMC Sierra.
Crash scene investigation determined that for unknown reasons, Flanagan’s vehicle drifted into the left-hand turn lane and impacted Casali’s vehicle head-on in the center-left turn lane. As a result of the impact, Casali’s vehicle rotated approximately 180 degrees coming to a rest facing northbound.
Casali received serious injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. Casali was later flown by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Flanagan reported only minor injuries. Flanagan was cited for Failing to Maintain his Lane, I.C. 49-637(1). Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicles.
